Warm spices and sweet apples - this apple compote makes the perfect topping on a variety of dishes.
- 4 Empire apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
- ⅓ cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 pinch salt
Place all ingredients n a medium saucepan.
While stirring, bring to a simmer over medium-low heat.
When apples are fork tender, remove from heat.
Serve hot or warm.
Serving suggestions: Serve over pancakes, waffles, french toast, ice cream, yogurt, or as desired.
